Summary
Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide developed in Russia at the Institute of Molecular Genetics. It is a derivative of the immunomodulatory peptide Tuftsin. Research suggests anxiolytic properties without sedation or dependence, as well as potential cognitive-enhancing effects via BDNF and IL-6 modulation.
A Russian-developed anti-anxiety peptide that reduces stress without the sedation, addiction risk, or cognitive blunting of benzodiazepines. It gently modulates GABA (the brain's main calming system) and also increases BDNF — the protein that supports neuron health and memory. Often described as creating a calm, focused mental state rather than a sedated one.
Mechanism of Action↓
Interacts with the GABA receptor system (modulates GABA-A function) without being a direct agonist. Increases BDNF expression in the hippocampus. Modulates expression of IL-6 and IL-1 cytokines. Inhibits enkephalin-degrading enzymes, enhancing endogenous opioid peptide availability.
Half-life: ~1–3 minutes (rapidly degraded in plasma); nasal administration may extend local CNS effects
